Best of East and West Combined into One

Colour pencil and crayon on paper. Thanks a lot for viewing the painting. Subscribe to Beautiful and Sublime by Email Subscribe in a reader

Colour of Aesthetics

The initial drawing was done in pencil. Then colours from crayons and colour pencils were applied. It took some time, a bit more than two hours I suppose, to finish this painting.
Crosswise crayon strokes in blue and yellow at the background on either sides give a wonderful balance to the picture. One way strokes would have given the picture an annoying characteristic which would have disturbed the serenity. Thanks a lot for viewing the picture. Red and Blue

This was first done with pen on paper, and then crayon colours were applied. It was done just as my wife was serving the dinner. It took very little time and I made it a point to finish it before dinner. Got great satisfaction out of it. Subscribe to Beautiful and Sublime by Email Subscribe in a reader

Soft and Tender

This is a very simple painting done in a very short time. Following are the different stages as the picture developed - (28 x 20 cm approx., watercolour on paper)

This is the basic pencil sketch with tonal values.

After applying the basic colours (watercolour).

After adjusting the tonal values a bit.

Making minor adjustments for depth and giving some finishing touches.

As it would appear in monochrome.

As it would appear in black and white.
The monochrome and black and white give the picture an antique appearance. I love each one of them. Subscribe to Beautiful and Sublime by Email Subscribe in a reader

Bards of Bengal

Bards of Bengal, India, known in Bengali as 'baul'. Their philosophy of life is 'first know yourself.' Then only you can venture into the external world.
Watercolour on paper, 5 x 6 in. At the top, in between is the baul's famous single-string hand-made musical instrument called 'ektara' ('ek' means 'one', 'tar' means 'string' in Bengali). They play the ektara when they sing. Subscribe to Beautiful and Sublime by Email Subscribe in a reader
